Flight Attendant Bride Got Married In Flight

The Touching Reason this Flight-Attendant Bride Got Married In Flight

Kristy Stratton married Jim Larsen in a beautiful white gown with accessories of her own design. Her pastor led the ceremony, her mom had a front row seat, and her friend took photographs. It was a pretty typical wedding, save for one small thing— the wedding was held 35,000 feet in the air.
Stratton worked as a flight attendant for Alaska Airlines for 11 years. She met Larsen on a layover from Los Angeles to Seattle. Six years later, when they were planning to tie the knot, Stratton had a brilliant idea. "I was thinking of unique wedding ideas while driving home from a red-eye about a month before the wedding and thought it'd be a cool idea to get married on that exact flight," she told Today.com.
The idea was especially appealing to Stratton, because her mother, Billie Joe Stratton, had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Her mother wanted to see her daughter get married, but also to see what her daughter’s day-to-day life was like. "She wanted to come out and see where we were at because she knew I was happy out here in Seattle," Stratton told Fox29. "(She) wanted to come see Seattle and see our house here and just have a visual of what our life was like up here and that really, it really touched me."
To make her mother’s wish come true, Larsen got permission from her airline and booked tickets on the flight. Because it wasn’t a private plane, Stratton and Larsen were wed in front of a passengers traveling between Seattle and L.A. To get the passengers in a festive mood, Stratton’s flight attendant friends handed out bubbles, chocolate, and candy hearts.
An hour into the flight, Stratton and Larsen exchanged rings and even pinned pilot’s wings on each other.  After saying, "I do," they walked down the aisle as passengers blew bubbles and applauded the new couple.
"I was really touched and overwhelmed by the amount of love and joy flooding through the cabin," Stratton told Today. "Not only did they make the day even more special for me, but for my mom as well."
