Why people from the Northeast are so fashionable

Image
Their guitar might be their best friend. And, rock and blues might run their blood stream. But, their oomph is their signature style. So, what makes northeast India's in- your-face approach to fashion and off-beat style stand out? With the ladies already leading the pack, I analyse the male contribution (if any) - are they doing enough? And, more importantly, are they doing it right? Should men's clothing from the region be taken into consideration if I say that Northeast India is the nation's most fashionable region? To begin with let's get our geography right. Yes, Northeast India is in India. And, you don't need a passport to get there. Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim and Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya. Hence, Shillong and Sikkim are two separate states. There are a lot of misconceptions

I Wore Shorts on a Delhi Public Bus Every Day This Week…

Image
My team's eyes widened beyond belief with fear and concern—and they automatically assumed something dramatic would happen when I announced undertaking this task. To be honest, I cheated only slightly . I am often a little risqué in my rendezvous with public transport, and it's not caused me too much harm—and never in the physical sense. So I could see to some extent the waters I was stepping into. Although, short-shorts were going to be a slightly different ball-game from a knee-length pencil skirt… I'm not going to do this day-by-day break-up style—simply because not enough extraordinariness occurred on the daily to give it that 'dear diary' edge. I'd rather divide it by male/female reactions because that's what I find far more interesting. Here goes… MEN These were the three types of reactions my shorts-swathed bare legs elicited on the 392 bus from Delhi to Noida: The first, predictably, was staring hard . These men would let their gazes l

Brace yourself for the most bizarre road accident video from China

Image
This CCTV Footage of a road accident in China has befuddled people on the internet. Watch it to believe it. Photo: Youtube Screengrab We all have watched a number of Chinese road accidents on the internet, but this particular CCTV footage has left people completely confused. The video shows a busy road in Xingtai, China and all the vehicles seem to be driving around normally. But all of a sudden three vehicles abruptly stop and simultaneously levitate. It almost looks like a supernatural incident when the vehicles fly in the air and flip completely. And the weirdest thing is that there was no collision! However, to put all the paranormal theories to rest, it was later found that the culprit was a carelessly left road maintenance cable that caught three vehicles together and caused them to flip. Thank God to this clarification, cause without this the video is truly hair raising!

Turkish president says he wishes downing of Russian jet hadn't happened

Image
ANKARA, Turkey — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday voiced regret over Turkey's downing of a Russian warplane, saying his country was "truly saddened" by the incident and wished it hadn't occurred. It was the first expression of regret by the strongman leader since Tuesday's incident in which Turkish F-16 jets shot down the Russian jet on grounds that it had violated Turkey's airspace despite repeated warnings to change course. It was the first time in half a century that a NATO member shot down a Russian plane and drew a harsh response from Moscow. See also: What's next for Putin after Turkey shot down a Russian jet? "We are truly saddened by this incident," Erdogan said. "We wish it hadn't happened as such, but unfortunately such a thing has happened. I hope that something like this doesn't occur again." Addressing supporters in the western city of Balikesir, Erdogan said neither country should

Google Android One flops in India again

Image
NEW DELHI : Google's revamp of its Android One operating system for smartphones does not appear to have helped the search giant much, if shipment data from market research firm Cybex Exim Solutions is anything to go by. In the second version -- which was brought out by vendor Lava -- Google shifted focus to people who have used smartphones before with higher device price and better specs of Pixel V1, but it failed to enthuse consumers and shipments dropped sharply in September and October, according to data from Cybex Exim. ET was given exclusive access to this data. Lava, however, disagreed. "Lava Pixel V1 has received a positive response in the market," the company said in response to ET's queries, adding that the device is getting the Android Marshmallow upgrade. Google refused to comment on the matter. Lava, which was phase 2 partner for Google's Android One initiative, rolled out Pixel V1 in July for over Rs 11,000 almost double the price of the first
